Category — Ramblings
The markets have been fairly volatile as usual, with Companies being savaged for what is seen as under performing just because the profit is not what is expected. Irregardless of floods or economic downturns.
It never ceases to amaze me with the attitude of some of the traders around who sell off stocks because of a minor profit downgrade. “I’ll show you, take that!” so they sell their stocks and the share price drops down. Then they are upset because the share price goes downwards.
When good stocks go backwards for whatever reason, it is always a good time to top up your portfolio with quality stocks at a cheaper price. Buy in gloom and sell in boom.
The flavours of the Month is still Coal Seam Gas (CSG) and Gold and its silent partner Silver plus Rare Earths.
Firstly rare earths:-
I have had a good Month with Lynas (Asx Code LYC )which closed at $1.59 just prior to the news of Malaysia Approving their Temporary Operating Licence. Share price yesterday at closing was $1.39. A tip for you here is “Buy on the rumour and sell on the news.” There is still room for improvement in the share price in the near future I re bought at lower price and have left them to gather dust for awhile.
Coal Seam Gas :-
Lots of activity going on what with Gas hungry British Gas swallowing up Bow Energy and Arrow Energy.
Drillsearch (Asx Code DLS) is currently enjoying a nice upwards trend tickled along by QGC exercises options taking 9.4% stake in Drillsearch on 2nd February. Share price closed at around $1.20 . ( QGC was taken over by British Gas a while ago.)
Drillsearch are 50% partners with Beach Petroleum (Asx Code BPT) busy currently developing their oil and gas fields.
Another Coal Seam Gas miner is Senex (SXY) who used to be called Victoria Petroleum. Who are also very busy with developing oil in the Cooper Basin and Coal Seam Gas in the Surat Basin.
Both DLS and SXY are prime takeover targets in the Coal Seam Gas race to supply the gas trains at Gladstone up here in Queensland.
Gold and Silver :-
My favourite here is Focus Minerals (Asx Code FML) they have recently taken over Crescent Gold and have three gold mines now producing. Their share price at closing yesterday was a nice price of 0.054 cents per share. A great one to buy and put into the bottom draw. As to why the share price is not higher beats me as they are now in the top five gold producers in Australia.
The markets in general are fairly volatile at present so use your stop losses to minimise losses plus do your research.
Please remember these are just my ramblings and not to be misconstrued as investment advice in any way and remember always do your own diligent research.

I do most of my research after the day’s trading has finished. Firstly I look for stocks that have performed well today and add them to my prospect list. This number varies from time to time but the average number can be as high as 50 or so.
The reason for so many prospects is because only a small percentage will eventually match my entry criteria. So because of this I am entering new names continually on a daily basis. There is no restriction to which sector they belong to either. They could be the banking or the mining sector, I try not to have favorites, but I must admit I find this hard to do at times.
A great source of future prospects is “The Changes in Substantial Shareholders section.”This is where you can see who the big companies are currently investing in, usually in large amounts. Remember they are not buying for the fun of it. You can guarantee they have done their research properly and see it as a good investment for the future. [Read more →]

The market in general was relatively flat excepting the gold sector. As I mentioned last weekend I gave you FML (Focus Minerals) to research. As of today they have now progressed into the ASX300.
Focus Minerals also are currently taking over Crescent Gold (ASX code CRE) They currently own 83.2% of the total shares. Once the takeover is completed FML will be in the top 5 gold producers in Australia.
Newcrest Mining (ASX code NCM)who are our largest gold miner are currently sitting on around $40.00 per share. FML is sitting on around. 0.071 cents per share.
Which way do you think FML’s share price will be heading? It’s a no brainer really.
Below I have posted some background information for you to look at.
Focus Minerals Ltd (FML) is a based gold producer operating in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields. FML holds the mineral rights to more than 305 sqkm of tenements in the Coolgardie Gold Belt located in Western Australia. FML focuses on its flagship operation, Tindals Mining centre, in Western Australia.
FML is aiming to grow the reserve base, expand mining at Tindals Mining Centre and, fast track development at The Mount Project. The company is targeting sustained production of 130,000oz by 2012.

Spring has sprung and the Market did also, although it only lasted for four days before going backwards again. Hopefully it was due to profit taking. But being more realistic it is usually due to negative news from overseas. It doesn’t take much to spook the average trader now days and send them into a blind panic.
It is surprising when their is a big drop in share prices that most traders don’t stop to think that for every stock sold there must be a buyer, otherwise nothing happens. In other words for every negative trader there is a trader who is thinking the opposite. Usually when prices are going up traders are selling to make profits.
That old saying, “Buy in Gloom and Sell in Boom” is what I adhere to quite often.
The areas that I am currently involved in at the moment are Gold, Energy (specifically coal seam gas ) and rare earths.
Now some research for you..Gold (Asx code FML) ; Energy (Asx code SXY) Aand rare earths.(Asx code LYC)
I shall be writing in more detail on these in the weeks to come.
So in the meantime enjoy profitable trading.
